Natural Vulnerability

This collection of paintings represent the challenge of accepting vulnerability. We are connected to nature, yet it is vulnerable to our harm and destruction of it. Sometimes it is resilient. Other times, it needs more support to grow again. Feeling vulnerable as an artist means it is time for you to take risks. My support has been my professors and classmates at KCAD. My final paintings are created using a palette knives, cold wax, and glazing techniques. This new technique diminishes my desire to portray colors in a representational way. This technique is outside my comfort zone but teaches me things about color theory I have never explored. The limited palette and tools encourages me to take those greater risks I have been searching for. This same type of risk taking can be explored in any journey throughout life and is seen throughout nature. It is remarkable what beauty can arise from vulnerability.
