Iceland's Blue Diamonds

The blue-green colors of glaciers and icebergs have always seemed spectacular and other-worldly to me. What creates these amazing hues is also the the same action which creates diamonds, incredible pressure. The immense weight of a glacier forces all the air out of the ice, trapping only blue light waves. Here are some amazing photographs taken at a glacial lagoon in Iceland named Jökulsárlón. Unfortunately, these icebergs only formed because of climate change. The main glacier has melted over the past 60 years, creating a lagoon. Pieces of the glacier have broken off and now are floating silently as icebergs. I took these photos from an amphibious charter boat. This unique site has also been used in several Hollywood movies. Don't miss this if you ever go to Iceland.
