This piece is a tribute to the "weight of war" a soldier must carry while serving our country & the ptsd that one may experience post war experiences. The men & women that served and currently serve this country not only have to carry the weight of what they encounter upon themselves, but must carry it for us as well, including the enemy. The experiences that a soldier faces can affect them physically, emotionally, & mentally for a lifetime. This work consists of two chainsaw carvings & a large painted tattered flag that hangs behind.. The fabric flag gains weight as it is transformed into wood on the back of the carved soldier. The canvas in the background has an image of a soldier carrying his fellow Comrad off into the distance in the pouring rain. The wood is symbolic of the difficult mental state that he/she must endure from the war. The tattered flag represents the trials & tribulations that he/she must face. Each tattering is symbolic of the now tattered mental state.
