Impressions of Koi

For these paintings, the movement within the colors and the water were my main focus. I love koi not only for their graceful appearance and movement, but also their symbolic meaning of good fortune, abundance and perseverance. These paintings were all created after having the honor of living for a year and a half in Yokosuka, Japan. I became completely enchanted with the Japanese people, their culture, the food, and the beauty that surrounded me. My time in Japan was incredibly inspirational with the variety of temples, castles, gardens, cities, villages, ocean views and more. My only regret was that our time there was so short.
