Gathering

Entry "Gathering" spans nearly 35 years of my artist's life and work. The oil painting 44 x 36" on the left was painted over 3 months around 1984. The child is my daughter. We were 'gathering' apple windfalls "for apple sauce and pies in the winter" when my daughter ran and put on her Winter play jacket and ski mask. I asked her to pose, she fussed and made 'raspberries' with her lips. The camera caught the 'surrealistic' image and I decided to make the painting in my Traditional or Realism style. This year I approached the idea again with my current 'love of pure paint' and my Expressionist mode of painting. The mask and pictures will be part of the display, as well as a written comparison of the Realism and Expressionist styles in painting. This could prove an interesting learning experience for art goers. Sheryl is a professional artist represented by the Richard App Gallery in Grand Rapids. A BFA and MFA, she has exhibited nationally. GR artist Armand Merizon an early mentor.
