This is a photo series featuring the hands of youth who are staying at/or have stayed at the youth shelter The Bridge. They will choose to create different shapes, and then write accompanying statements to describe the symbolism behind it. The photos are black and white. The Bridge is a safe shelter program for youth in Kent County. On any given night there are approximately 200 youth in our county without a safe and stable place to sleep at night. The Bridge provides safe, supportive, temporary shelter to youth while we work together to determine a more sustainable housing plan. While with us, youth participate in social and life skills education, as well as group, individual, and family counseling. This piece will give voice to our youth, as well as raise awareness about youth homelessness in our community, and what community members can do to better support our young people.
