Treasure Haul

I am motivated by history and fantasy. Imagine the questions raised by mythical dragons roaming the earth, past or present. Would we try to retrieve it? How would we get it back? From their fossilized bones or would we have to fight for it? How would we re-distribute it once we have reclaimed it? Would they even steal and hoard treasure in the first place? And to what purpose does treasure hoarding serve a dragon? To what purpose does it serve humanity? In my piece, ‘Treasure Haul’, I try to combine the realistic and historical feeling of a textured fossil and the surrealism of a dragon together with a bit of playfulness in the coins I’ve collected on my various travels. At a glance, it should look real. With a close look, it should look impressionistic. I want my art to stick out from a wall and give you a good feeling, like a little smile in your tummy every time you experience it. It ended up, ironically, to also be a way for me to not ‘hoard’ the coins myself.
