My Dad's life was cut short. So I never heard the story of my favorite photo in my Dad's photo box. Inspired, I began planning and painting. A year goes by, mixed emotions, anxious to see results but never wanting it to end. Time spent with Dad and friends, teary eyes, missing him. The story begins half way through the work, this was no ordinary game, I sense a victory, smiles, bright eyes, treats, cigs. A player in a team shirt, I discover Ellis Pharmacy is the sponsor, a pharmacist, a proud owner both glowing with pride, good times. 77 yrs later I go back to this intersection. It has changed, residential now, rundown, I step out, I scan the corner wondering what corner? My tears in unison with the rain. A moment back in time, In Chicago, Ellis & 42nd, the 40's, my Dad, his friends, baseball, a story never told but revealed through brush stokes. It is finished. I stop, look and smile. My Dad smiles back as he did so long ago in the photo now in the painting. Now I know. :)
