Future's Past

Future's Past is a painting with projection video that pays homage to a bygone era of great neon signage. Using local Grand Rapids area references, I'm especially fond of the atomic age signage of the 50's/60's and am referencing locations that have since been torn down as well as those still in existence. The comet bowling and cocktails sign is a perfect example of a time when the space age references seemed to point us toward the heavens and the figure in the piece is both contemplative and optimistic. The painting (5' x 6') would have an accompaniment of a video that would show via projection or video next to the piece. This video would be time lapse, and show the painting composition coming together, and have the signs activated by motion and set to music. The music and video would be similar to the Jake and the Wranglers video link below (my band shown for example only.) I'm intrigued by how the video can combine the painting process, music, and video motion all together.
