Love is a Verb

The Bolkema Sisters Vote Code: 65281

"Love is a Verb" is an assemblage piece made with tarnished photographs, found objects, a rectangular frame covered in barn wood, and a wooden cross with a silhouette of Christ at the center backed in LED lights. The idea behind "Love is a Verb" was to illustrate the ways that people can and should show love to each other. We believe that the greatest act of love ever shown was Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. All other acts of love are just an echo of God's love for people. Often times people think of love as a feeling, it can be deceptive, and when the feeling stops the resulting separation is painful. That is why it is necessary to shift our perspective of love. If we were to choose to act in love towards people in the absence of desire or feeling our relationships with friends, family, and strangers would look very different. No one can love if they do not feel loved. Those who are connected to love or the ultimate source of love have the power to soften the pain of those lacking.

About The Bolkema Sisters

Our team is composed of two sisters. Alexis is studying art at Grace college and she is aiming to become a fine artist and sell her work around the US. Annie studied photography at Cornerstone University and currently does wedding photography. We are new to Art Prize this year, and are very excited about our piece and the people who we get to share it with!
