The Magician's Daughter - a self portrait honoring the phenomenal strength, love, and guidance given by the women in my life. I am adopted, and with the absence of some, come the protection of others. A magician may disappear, but her daughter remains. Each flower represents a different but very specific woman who has influenced me, taught me, loved me, guided me, and made me strong. The flower types are either the favorites of these women, or flowers that evoke their personalities. The cloak I am wearing in the drawing symbolizes how my community of women shield and protect me while allowing me to be strong and spiritual. There is power and beauty in a woman's "tribe" and this piece embodies that sentiment.
