TOTEM of a Michigan Woman

Sharron Ansell's avatar Sharron Ansell

This sculpture was created from Grand Rapids' steel chairs. TOTEM stands 8 feet tall, and 6 feet wide. These chairs were welded together creating a free style metal sculpture. The structure was named 'TOTEM' honoring the life history of a native Michigan woman. The story of TOTEM starts at the bottom with the Greek letter 'Alpha'. The journey of the woman's life goes throughout the sculpture. You will see many things that you can relate to as you work your way around TOTEM. At the top you will see the Greek letter 'Omega', which ends the journey at Art Prize 2017. .
