New Artifacts from an Ancient Culture

All across the Middle East, Islamic State is destroying or selling off artifacts of the ancient world, including those of my Assyrian ancestors. I saw a news story about a young Assyrian in Iraq who was sculpting recreations of as many stolen and destroyed artifacts as he could, to keep them from disappearing completely from the world (http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/17/middleeast/nimrud-iraq-mosul-artifacts/). I wanted to join him in his effort by painting. This is also a monument to my family, who came to America two generations ago with nothing more than a dream, and flourished in their new home, where they didn't have to check their cultural identity at the door.. I'm using this opportunity to pass it on to the next generation, my nine-year-old daughter, who's helping me with the research.
