For almost three decades, I worked in newspaper journalism, two of those decades at The Grand Rapids Press. Part of my work focused on visual information, including page design, which was becoming important during the 1980s. Piet Mondrian’s paintings were our first inspiration, so we strove to create clean, modular pages. His work continues to influence me, along with other Minimalist painters, mainly Mark Rothko and Ellsworth Kelly, who incorporated bright, bold colors into their simple designs. With this collection of 12 pieces, I aim to emulate their examples.
