Gaze-bo(ught)

For the 2016 ArtPrize, I am building a sculpture titled Gaze-bo(ught) that will be installed at Lyon Square. This sculpture is a gazebo in a gazebo in a gazebo. Each gazebo form is shaped like a gem and painted a saturated pink. The roof is made of pink resin panels that become a rose colored lens. When underneath, one is then bathed in pink light. The interior of the sculpture and surrounding ground is covered in thick artificial grass, which is always the perfect green and never needs to be mowed. Through scale variations, color, shape, and material, the sculpture Gaze-bo(ught) encourages a dynamic where one is both gigantic and miniature; simultaneously vast and independent while small and introspective. This ArtPrize entry has two parts: Gaze-bo(ught) and Gaze-bo(ught) Minis. Viewers will be able to commemorate this meta moment at Gaze-bo(ught) Minis, a mobile souvenir shop where Leticia Bajuyo and assistants will be docents and vendors for the Gaze-bo(ught) experience.
