October Sunset at Grand Haven

Raised in Michigan but living in Atlanta, I truly miss the abundant water offerings in my home state and I particularly miss the beauty of Lake Michigan. While enjoying ArtPrize Seven as a first-time artist attendee, I desperately wanted to spend time at Lake Michigan. Between the weather and various commitments before returning to my southern home, I took my last chance to drive to Grand Haven for sunset. The afternoon sun was shining brightly as the wind made the waterscape choppy, boats and jet skis almost appeared to be bobbing for apples. I anxiously explored the area in the sunlight, but as the sun began to drop, the temperature did too causing me to pull my scarf tighter and over my head against the biting wind. The sky was beautiful with colors and as time went on, the colors became deeper and more vivid. "One more picture" was what I kept saying to my frigid fingers as I lingered, mesmerized by what I saw.
