American Barn Revisited - Starry Night Over the White Barn

Jennifer O'Meara's avatar Jennifer O'Meara

Jennifer O’Meara has exhibited her artwork at six out of the past eight Artprize years, and is known for her highly stylized and abstracted treatment of rural America, particularly barns, ranch architecture, and trains. This year, the artist returns again to her favorite subject - a great American iconic barn. "This big white barn is my favorite subject, and I visit every year to study how the patterns of light and shadow change with each season and different times of day. This piece is my representation of how it felt to me after attending the barn’s 80th anniversary barn dance - after all the people went home - with only the stars in the sky, the crickets chirping, and the barn to keep me company while I sat enjoying the early fall night." I work in a variety of mediums; this piece combines photographicpigment prints and pigmented encaustic paint (beeswax and resin.)
