"Waters of Life"

From abstraction, the flow of space and depth within my pieces seeks to evoke emotion and energy. As an artist, I strive to represent my life experiences, inner thoughts, and emotion in each of my paintings. The proposed work will be a continuation of this journey I have been exploring during my time at Kendall College of Art and Design. This process began as a reaction to a recent loss in my life of two dear friends Christopher, and Aaron. During this time grief-fueled my work, I started to paint dark water-like scenes expressing my deep sadness. As time progressed I missed them less and honored their lives more; with each new painting the process morphed and grew to be brighter in tone, depth, and color. Through this process, I wish to convey an uncontrolled energy that brings wonder and the feeling of depth and expansion to the viewer. Like my emotions and experiences through this time of life my painting flowed and morphed uncontrolled into something new and different just like the vast "waters of life". The new work I will be creating for ArtPrize8 will be inspired by the paintings above. I have provided a loose sketch of what this painting may end up like, done in watercolor and colored pencil. The painting will be about 6' 6 1/2'' x 3'' when finished. The creative process is my way of healing and growing in this life, my goal is to connect with my audience in a way that sparks their own emotions, thoughts, and lives.
