The Neighborhood

In the time I have lived in Grand Rapids, I have found that it is home to many unique and amazing individuals who oftentimes go unnoticed. This project was my representation of the people in my own community who offer much more than can be expressed in words. The Neighborhood Project that I’ve been working on began as a way to uncover those who take the time to interact with the community around them. The black and white environmental photographs are examples of the men and women employed on the North West side of Grand Rapids, between the areas of Fulton and Leonard street. This project was an attempt for others to think twice about the ways in which they interact with the workers within their own community. The photographs highlight these everyday laborers and provide more of an inside look at how they interact with not only the people they encounter but the environmental space around them.
