Ebb and Flow

My recent work is a study on the simplistic elegance of repetitive shape. I use felt to create hundreds of ‘follicles’ that are sewn together to form different patterns. The interplay between the follicles and the contrast of shadows from lighting creates inspirations and emotions essential to the artwork. Each piece of artwork represents the ebb and flow of human life and how we, as individuals, create waves that impact others. Felt is my medium of choice because it engages the viewer. The texture draws you in and asks to be touched or examined more closely. The photos shown are smaller studies that represent possibilities and concepts for a larger installation. I would like to cover a large area with waves of felt follicles. The final form and shape of this fiber installation will be dependent on the area provided by the host location.
