Spontaneous Elaboration

"Spontaneous Elaboration" was created from numerous forged steel experiments, test pieces, and samples made over the years of my blacksmithing career. Each individual part was formed using fire, hammer, and anvil (as well as a few other tools). The arrangement came about spontaneously as assembly progressed, the individual parts being arc welded into the whole. This piece represents the creative possibilities of shaping hot steel and iron, each part being the beginning of a larger construct, new ideas to explore, and in some cases to explore no further. It is an elaboration, based on the question of what to do with all those odds and ends that get made in the process of learning.
