Perception V Reality uses reflections; literally and metaphorically. This collection explores the dynamics that exist between outward appearance and internal essence. The countenance, the “good face” that women often put on contrasts with deeper feelings, concerns, and fears. The recurring themes of eyes as window to the soul, beauty as fleeting, or self loathing, are explored in a variety of mediums. The use of paint, pencil, charcoal, and photography intentionally challenge the norm and break the barrier of what is expected. Many of these pieces portray perceived frailties, in reality, the embracement of self is empowering and shows strength of character.
