1.6 million Americans are affected by Crohn's & Ulcerative Colitis, collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Due to the embarrassing nature of many of the symptoms of IBD, patients often suffer in silence, unsure of how to speak out about their illness and their needs. Flush IBD is a 3D exhibit created to help bring awareness to the plight of IBD patients through the use of literal potty humor. The toilets included in our flush garden have been decorated by patients, their families, caregivers, and support network. Just as each patient has a unique experience with their disease, each toilet is unique in its design. Through this exhibit, I hope to open a dialogue about IBD, and how you can support patients in your life- some of whom you may not even realize are suffering from these diseases.
