World Table

We all sit at the same table. Sacred homelands from coast to coast define our culture, treasure our languages, and launch our dreams. Who can discern the choice from the condition woven into the comfort and pride of our own experiences? The heart and soul of every man, for he is blessed with but one home...our magnificent world. This World Table pencil sketch depicts the unity of all mankind, much stronger together than isolated in our own corners. The painted border surrounding the world was created by the children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth. Each puzzle piece shows how we take care of our world and each other, linked together around several unique chairs pulled up to the world table. My passion for involving urban youth in creating artwork that ignites lasting positive community experiences stems from being the proud mother of 3 children, a 4th grade teacher at Grand Rapids Public Schools, and a K-12 educational leadership doctoral candidate at WMU.
