Nature Nurture

Painted from January to November 2014. We've moved 8 times in the last 13 years including in the time it took to create this painting. Nature Nurture was a learning collaboration with my two oldest children (who were 10 and 8 at the time) as we painted scenes throughout 2014 on our moving to Michigan. The title, Nature Nurture, refers to the term for our innate abilities as expressed by our hereditary traits and the environment in which they are nurtured, both of which are at constant interplay. --- We started the painting in January when there was a lot of snow and worked on it off and on again throughout the year painting in the seasons, literally finishing it in November of 2014 with the first snow as the seasons turned again. It made us more observant of the landscape and the ways it changes. Thus, we also want to instill the nurture of nature itself. My daughter painted in whimsical birds and fairies. My son drew in a grove of trees which we painted together.
