The Sentry

When I decide to draw a particular location there is an impression that draws me into that area. I observe the details nature has provided me and they are an important part of my artwork but it is the impact of that first response that I embrace and desire to express in drawing a landscape. I never lose sight of that initial inspiration. The landscape drawing, The Sentry, was a drawing of happen-chance. I had passed this sight on my bike a hundred times last summer before I took refuge under this tree to wait out a rainstorm. I had noticed the scene before I stopped that day but as I stood there waiting for the rain to stop I looked at everything around me differently. What struck me most was how beautiful this strong old tree was in spite of its flaws and scars. In looking at the drawing the Sentry I hope the viewer experiences the same passion and awe I have for nature.
