Reflections of Grand Rapids

My entry is titled "Reflections of Grand Rapids". I did similar paintings for Artprize 2010. I put traces of Grand Rapids buildings and bridges into my painting. The painting is oil on a 36x36 canvas. When I paint this style, I photograph areas of architecture and water which inspire me. I then go back to my studio and sketch elements of the architecture onto the canvas. I only put trace amounts of realism into the painting so the viewer can relate and identify with the painting. I then add many textures both large and small with my palette knives, giving the painting mystery and depth. When I am in the process of creating my reflection paintings I get lost in the small details of the paint layers- I imagine small cities and towns in the details.
