Painting of MLK, Jr. shows a moment, a very significant moment in our Country's history. The pose of Lincoln's hand was something that as an artist I chose to replicate with MLK, Jr.'s hand. I asked a neighbor to pose his hand in the same way as I saw with Lincoln in his grip of the chair, to grip the podium to show us all the relevance to the speaker. That he: MLK, Jr. knew that in his words, many people would know that this was a moment, and his place in history. This work was commissioned by the Carus Publishing Co., accompanying a poem written by the former Children's Poet Laurette, J. Patrick Lewis, "Balad for MLK, Jr.". Published in Feb. issue of Cricket Magazine, 2014.
