HOMECOMING (?) Proposed: 36” X 48” Oil on canvas painting. “HOMECOMING (?)” depicts a member of the Armed Forces returning “home” and the uncertainties that lie ahead once he returns to civilian life. The symbols in the work: the Blue Star Banner and the yellow ribbons give the idea that the subject in the work is returning from combat, that his family has been awaiting his safe return and that he is welcomed with open arms and great anticipation. This is an accurate assumption, but the whole of the work represents the difficulty and fears that many veterans (both combat and non-combat) face when they transition from the structure, balance, organization, familiarity, camaraderie and security of the Military World into the unknown aspects of the Civilian World.
