The Blind Ambition of Miss Columbia

Urban Garden Performing Arts

Performing Saturdays Sept. 26th & Oct. 3rd 1:30, 2:00, 3:00 & 3:30pm. Amyway Grand Plaza, 187 Monroe NW, outdoor patio, NW corner. ArtPrize neighborhood = City Center. 'The Blind Ambition...' is a live performance incorporating music, dance and theatre. It features performance artist Pj Maske, dancer/choreographer Angie Yetzke and live music by Bruce Benedict. 'The Blind Ambition...' is based on original songs by Bruce Benedict that critique the historical American ideology of Manifest Destiny. This piece raises questions about collective cultural identity & memory. When white popular art and culture tend to romanticize the past, how do we own the truths of a damning history? Benedict's story and character songs based on late 19th and early 20th century American blind ambition offer a somber meditation on an often over glorified "golden age".
