People I Love That I Don't Even Know

My entry is a large Redwork style quilt about "being remembered" and "being an artist". I drew all of the people I most admire, but don't know (as it turns out they are mostly artists) then I hand-embroidered over the drawings with red embroidery floss. Their names and birth dates are set below each face. The dyed-green borders are discarded embroidery projects that I found, made by unknown artists. I think the real beauty of traditional handwork has always been about "remembering" and "being remembered". I love all of these people, but I did not know them. Artists can inspire people and be remembered forever because of the things they make and do. Things last but people don't.
