Messages from Pictured Rocks

In the summer of 2014, I visited the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, Michigan. My family and I boarded the Pictured Rocks Cruise. As we sat on the upper deck for the boat tour, I took photographs of these magnificent rocks, and stared in awe at God's beautiful creation. As I began to review the photographs I had taken, they started to tell a story. As an artist, I decided to transform these photographs into a large 3 panel acrylic painting (4 feet tall and over 15 1/2 feet long when installed) that would not only translate God's messages I received that day, but capture the beauty of those amazing rocks. Each canvas is 48" tall x 60" wide. The rocks were created with ceramic stucco texture gel, carving each crack and crevice, by using a palette knife, and then were painted with acrylic paint. "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." -Psalm 18:2(NIV)
