Jellyfish

This watercolor is a happy accident using the pouring method to put the paint on the paper and using salt to give the effect of being under water. The results were a delightful scene of a whimsical jellyfish. As an artist, I am looking for ways to use techniques new and different from what I've done in the past. Although I've use salt on a watercolor painting before, I've never used it to this extent. A little salt here and there can add texture to a painting, even giving it a more three dimensional look. In this painting, I threw caution to the wind and threw a large handful of salt on the wet paint and, since it was late in the evening, went to bed. I was pleasantly surprised to see the result in the morning! It truly looked like an under water scene! A little paint here and there to complete the picture and it was done. I'm excited to present it here.
