A year ago, feeling smothered by my collection of kitschy objects that I would juxtapose into “art”, I gave it all away and stuck to branches and rice paper as ingredients. I began this year’s ArtPrize piece with the same pared-down menu. These balancing pieces I start at the top with the lightest weight parts resting on tip-toe on the next part down. At the top you see branches and paper. Soon a few beads entered in, ‘til finally heavy stuff near the bottom. And finally a big, obnoxious lamp base. It’s hard to break away from the old tendencies.
