Blurred Horizon

Diane Schroeder's avatar Diane Schroeder

This 9' x 9' painting entitled "Blurred Horizon" is a mixed media painting on 9 composed canvases built with layers of Magna on rice paper, collaged with oil based paint, gold leaf and silk – together, expressing the intention. Inspired by life's horizons, both near and distant, mystifying the delicious ambiguity of what lies in the path ahead. The artist questions: Is stepping over the familiar rocky edge of what's known - into the blurriness of the future - a welcome challenge toward random opportunities - or is the clear knowledge of the presence more comforting? Diane's work nearly always reveals the suggestion of landscapes, no matter how far into abstraction her work evolves. Her work, while suggesting landscapes, continually explores the qualities of contrast and contradiction. Freed from the limitations of paint, multiple media provides contrasts and subtleties in color, texture and reflection. The dimension of collage adds dynamics to the drama and emotion of her work.
