Curated Love

We live in a technology-focused society. From texting to e-mailing to social media, we declare our relationships in so many disconnected and impersonal ways. The hand written word conveys a sentiment that our obsession with immediate gratification rejects. A new meaning is brought to life when these thoughts are transcribed by hand. There are moments within a hand written letter that are poetic and earnest. There is sanctity in words. They are candid truths that know no boundaries. By making the privacy of one’s words public, I hope to suggest the lost beauty of romancing and its unpretentious relationship to the hand written word. For this installation, I am collecting hand written love letters to display. I am then creating geometric paper sculptures to reflect the gemstones and jewels we receive from our loved ones.
