Pony Ride

This year's entry is a kinetic horse based on the designs of Theo Jansen. The use of the kinetic horse was considered for previous ArtPrize entries, in different iterations, but this design is one that makes me smile a bit. This year’s entry is based on what has not-yet-been-done. I have an affinity for mechanical, active works and this one should be a crowd-pleaser. It is a mechanical horse, fully active, walking in a “pony ride” circle. The horse will be about 4’ tall and will be a skeletal machine. The horse is constructed primarily from tools provided from MIT (Michigan Industrial Tool) so the “bones” are wrenches and other hand tools. It is very heavy! Spoke Folks, a local bike co-op, also provided some needed bicycle parts that will provide the linkages to make it move. It will be walking in its "stall" on the 5th floor terrace at the UICA. It is currently being assembled into what should be a fun piece.
