Vintage '47

Vintage '47 is a 30" x 40" acrylic painting of the April 1947 flood. This represents my fifth consecutive entry in ArtPrize. It captures the moment of a car driving through a temporary pond that was once a road. There is a man on the street waiting to cross and a woman on the far side about to enter a building. The telephones lines show the connections between people, yet the water is keeping these two people separated. I feel that most people can relate to this disconnection, even in our 'connected' world. For myself the piece is reminiscent of the moodiness and loneliness found in an Edward Hopper work from the 1940's. The source material was a photograph in our family archives.
