Victims of Expectation

No one takes photos of their father in a drunken rage or their little sister’s suicide. No one wants to show the world those events in sharp focus. When we go to someone’s home they often have family photos on display that present their family as happy, loving, and well groomed. The images people choose to display to the world are often far from reality. People make poor choices, can be abusive, depressed, have addictions, and get bored. Marriages fall apart and careers fail to satisfy. Barbie is a representation of the perfect All-American-Woman. She can perfectly balance all aspects of her life: career, marriage, children, friendships, and even has time for charity work. We struggle to reach this cookie-cutter ideal that is presented to us as children, constantly competing with each other as we become victims of expectations that are insanely high. Barbie is the victim in these images. The victim of failed expectations and the victim of frustration due to a lack of fulfillment.
