Kitsch 2 Kunst Inspiration is everywhere. Kitsch in any of its forms is designed to hit you like a sugar buzz. To be kitsch is to be cliché, which is to be so common and overused so as to loose all of it’s intended impact. With all of its mass produced properties kitsch is trite and even irritating at best. Kunst is the word for “art” in Dutch, Danish, German, Estonian, and Norwegian. With Kitsch 2 Kunst we will attempt to prove our thesis that “Inspiration is Everywhere”. We will begin by selecting six of the most banal or kitsch images from the internet, searching the subjects of: sunsets, nature, love, animals, babies, and paintings. Through an ordered sequence we will continue to paint five generations of images from each other’s interpretations until we end up thirty paintings, from kitsch to kunst. The last two paintings will in a very real way have the of DNA from each of the images that came before them. Proving that inspiration can be found everywhere and in everything.

About Farchi - Van der Wouden + Deans
Tali Farchi is a painter/animator/designer that lives in the Netherlands, and Royce Deans is a painter/designer that lives and works in Traverse City, MI. We have worked together for over 8 years, and while we work quite differently from each other we realized from the beginning that we share the same sensibilities. This will be our four ArtPrize project.
