Finding Beauty: Grand Rapids is a journey of discovery, cooperation and integration. Imagery sourced from Grand Rapid’s urban environment has been used to create pieces that function as both contemporary art and commercial design. The work investigates the hidden beauty that surrounds us unnoticed until presented in a new context, and takes the creative process out of the studio and into the local community. I have collaborated with local designers and manufacturers to present these images in an unusual and surprising way. Working together with Scott Group Custom Carpets, Image StreetBox 1 (taken from a UPS drop box) has been used to create a 10x8 feet custom made carpet which will be donated to UICA for their new Loft area after ArtPrize. Image Streetbox II (taken from a US Post mailbox) has been used to create a triptych of rolling window shades with custom made valance, created in collaboration with local interior designer J Parker McCollum, to act as a backdrop to the carpet .
