Proulx's Blues

John Proulx's avatar John Proulx

Although currently living in South Pasadena, CA, John grew up in Grand Rapids, MI, is a graduate of Catholic Central High School, and attended Aquinas College for two years. John is excited to be returning for this year's Art Prize competition. John's current submission, "Proulx's Blues", is an original song that he co-wrote with lyricist K. Lawrence Dunham for his most recent CD, "The Best Thing For You" (MAXJAZZ, 2012). Melodically, it's reminiscent of the bluesy sound of Mose Allison. Lyrically, it tells the story of the woes of being a musician in a similar vein as pianist and composer, Dave Frishberg. Featured on the track is John Proulx on piano and vocals, legendary musicians, Chuck Berghofer on bass (Nancy Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Troup), and Joe LaBarbera on drums (Bill Evans, Woody Herman). Thanks for taking a listen, and I appreciate your vote!
