"Centennial Stomp"

Mark Lavengood's avatar Mark Lavengood

I wrote this song between winter of 2011-2012. The idea came from trying to emulate sounds on the steel guitar that I had heard while watching video clips of various steel guitarists from the 40's-60's; the melody followed shortly thereafter. I recorded it later in June '12, backed by some jazz musicians I had befriended while living in Chicago. Chris Graham on vibes, Andrew Trim on electric guitar, Andrew Wilkins on upright bass, and Lucas Gillan on drums. I released it earlier this year on the Earthwork Music Collective label on my 7" vinyl self-titled, "Mark Lavengood". One half is straight steel guitar-centric and the other, acoustic resonator gutiar-centric.
