"play" is a work based on a photograph of my childhood piano. I glued small pieces of torn magazine pages and sheet music on canvas to recreate this picture of my past. When I look back on the days I spent around that old piano, I see how I’ve grown because it was there: * I learned how to read music – a skill that comes in handy for me as a choir member at Calvary Church. * I built relationships with friends and family as we had fun playing songs together. * I gained confidence in who God created me to be. Having come from a broken home, I was a pretty shy and insecure kid. While I never took piano lessons, I realized early on that God had given me musical talent and I’m grateful. Although that piano is gone now, the life lesson it brought me remains. Work is a good and necessary action but when you get the chance, it’s important to take the time to play.
