Impermanence, change, and transformation are themes I have been exploring over the past couple of years. The piece I have to show you now is a sample of what I would like to create. I have drawn up a sketch of what I have in mind for the entire piece, specifically its scale as well as the form it will take on the wall. The piece’s shape and size can easily be modified to fit the space’s requirements. I would like to construct a large-scale wall installation that includes both two and three-dimensional properties. By experimenting with the paper’s surface and texture I will create a field of different values, textures, and patterns. The images I will be using are inspired by astrology and constellations, and were derived by exploring different etching techniques. I will create layers of information by handcrafting 3 dimensional butterflies made with photocopied images and paper pulp. Different sections of the piece may also contain subtle colors applied with paint.
