Seven to Fourteen

"Seven to Fourteen" is made of two portraits of kids in my daily life. 'Seven' is my son Malcolm when he was seven years old, and 'Fourteen' is my neighbor and friend Bailey when he was fourteen. I wanted to render these images of the two boys because they capture them at specific moments in their lives and are very personal portraits, but also portray two possible reactions to the universal problem that everyone I know struggles with in some way or another—our essential lack of control over reality as we experience it. Control, and how we humans deal with our lack of it, is very compelling to me.
