Crescent City Soul

In 2005 New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and again in 2010 by the BP oil spill. This great American treasure that boasts so much diversity has faced some of the most adversity. Yet through it all N'Awlin's has not lost its unique flavor. The soul of this city is alive and well and through my piece "Crescent City Soul" the spirit shines through. While in New Orleans I was granted access to some of the still devastated homes in the Lower 9th Ward. I salvaged a door from a home in the Lower 9th Ward that probably has quite a story to tell. I am transforming this door into a work or art and a tribute to the enduring spirit of the great people of New Orleans. Through carving and painting of the door I hope to make people stop and take notice that though the storm took place 7 years ago the road to complete recovery is still one being traveled by many even today.
