Abstract Reflections

"Abstract Reflections" is a collage of four canvases that represent this moment in time in my life. The art is constructed of multiple layers beginning with maps in the first piece, which reflects the impact that geography has on a person's life experiences, interests, and understanding of the world. The remaining layers are build up with watercolor, oil pastel, and beeswax dyed in a variety of colors, which is called encaustic. The layers represent the building up of experiences both positive and negative that shape a person as they move through life. The encaustic provides a visual texture for the smooth, calm, as well as, the strong turbulence of life that build the layers of a person's character and personality. These pieces are part of a collection in the series, "Abstract Reflections" from my life capturing both city and rural settings, as they morph between the pieces to create one large image that represents an abstract reflection of my life.
