An American in Tibet

My proposal for Artprize is represented by this watercolor sketch titled "An American in Tibet". A love of people and a deep interest in the human experience is key to my work. I have been working on a series of black and white portraits with colorful head coverings one of which was on exhibit at Artprize 2011. The concept is to capture the spirit and uniqueness of the individual as a whole rather than to identify them in regard to race, color or creed. This painting relates to the idea of women's support for each other regardless of cultural differences. The American is my sister while on a botany expedition trip for the Smithsonian in southern Tibet. The image shown is a preliminary sketch or study of the proposed work which will be created on a larger scale with extreme attention to detail. The final work is not yet completed.
