Nocturne Aglow

My work is process oriented with a focus on light, color, and color theory. The "black" I create is actually layers and layers of pure color until I achieve the "black" hue that I desire. The sides of this work show the layers of the pigments. I used spray paint to create the smoke effect. All the other paint is created off-site of the work and allowed to dry. Then, after it is cured I basically assemble each individual paint piece into the final arrangement on the surface. Other elements in the painting are crystals, clear medium, and wire. By working in this manner I am able to create a dimensional effect. The dimensionality, in turn, emphasizes the particulate nature of light and the matter that is being forcefully thrust into the atmosphere as a firework explodes. This process also emphasizes the playful and theatrical nature of a fireworks display. It is meant to be engaging to all ages, and to expand the options of how to approach painting.
